April Athlete of the Month: Amber Khoury-Blanchette
Congratulations to Rising’s April Athlete of the Month, Amber Khoury-Blanchette! This little dynamo has been a Rising member for less than a year but she has made her presence known in a big way. You can usually find Amber crushing it in the back left corner of the gym most every day of the week. Take some time to read her responses below to get to know her story a little bit better.
Date you started Crossfit: March 2014
Day job: Too long to put on here so we’ll keep it short … Stay at home momma
Athletic/fitness background: Swimming, soccer and field hockey
What made you decide to start CrossFit? I just had my third baby and I had a friend who kept trying to get me try it. So I listened to her and it made sense to me. Ever since I can remember I was a gym rat. I would go to the gym do my hour of spin and then go lift for another hour. I had to be real with myself, I couldn’t be spending that much time in the gym with three kids. Then she told me I wouldn’t have to plan my work outs, that someone else did that work for me. But what really sparked may interest was when she said it gave her back her competitive edge. That feeling that you get as an athlete is amazing and you can never have enough of it! So once I got my 6 week clearance, I dragged my family with me to my first intro class!
Something that we don’t know about you is…: I suck at spelling and grammar! Sorry Michelle!

Hobbies/interests outside the gym: crafting, cooking and family
Favorite CrossFit movement: thruster/OHS/STOH
Least favorite CrossFit movement: WALLBALLS
What do you love most about CrossFit? I love that its been three years and I still get those butterflies in my stomach when you hear that count down. CrossFit is my happy place for many reasons but the number one reason why I have fallen in love with the sport and the community is because it has become a place where I can destress and unwind. In fact, at times it is my church. When life gets tough and all you have sometimes are your kids, the next best thing is the man upstairs!
What is your biggest challenge with Crossfit? Self-doubt! I over think things and second guess a lot. Lets not forget pacing…..what is that!? God made me with short legs. All I know is fast out the gate! My long game …well there is nothing long about me so I have no long game. I have to be honest, this question is what I like most about this sport, everything is challenging and there is always something to work on.
