Rising May Athlete of the Month: Kristine Golden

Congrats are in order for Rising’s May athlete of the month, Kristine Golden.  New to Charlotte, this little powerhouse of an athlete has been impressive since this first day she set foot in the gym just a few months ago.  Check out her interesting story below!

Date you started crossfit: Officially on 2/28/18 (at Rising)

Day job: Mamma bear of two wild, 20 month old boys.

Athletic/fitness background: I have been active my whole life and, slightly competitve. I was a triathlete for about 8 years and raced everything from sprints to full Ironman races. I absolutely loved that training and the community.

What made you decide to start CrossFit?  Once I had my boys, triathlon training wasn’t so much an option because of the time involved. We moved to Charlotte in December from NJ. I had been training at an amazing gym up north and was looking for a new gym to call home. I wanted something challenging and motivating – I found that in Rising. I had tried several other gyms/boxes but none compared to Rising!

Something that we don’t know about you is… I am Cypriot (Greek – the blonde hair throws people😉). I am first generation here and a citizen both here and in Cyprus where I lived and taught for some time. Also, I have an abnormally unhealthy relationship with almond butter😉

Favorite quote: I have two….”Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall”- Confucius. And, in the wise words of Christopher Robin, “Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think” (I like to say this to my boys everyday😊)

Hobbies/interests outside the gym: Ummmmm, running after two wild boys? I am pretty boring these days…

Favorite CrossFit movement:  Burpee pull up!

Least favorite CrossFit movement: Anything involving the word ‘snatch’.

What do you love most about CrossFit?  I love the variety and intensity. Specifically, about Rising, I love the community. I am totally motivated by all the bad ass athletes here and the support from the coaches.

What is your biggest challenge with Crossfit? Form…..form….and, form…. 😊
